Studio Visit Magazine

Two of Paula's bee monotype paintings were chosen for Studio Visit magazine. Studio Visit is an offshoot of "New American Paintings." Artists are selected by professional curators, and the publication is for sale worldwide. It is also sent to galleries and curators with the goal of getting artists' work into the hands of important art world professionals.

Madera Children's Hospital

"Delta Vineyards"

One of Paula's encaustic paintings was selected to represent the fifth Senate District in the annual California Contemporary Art Collection Exhibition at the State Capitol. “Delta Vineyards” was selected from among 18 entries in the district by a representative from the Yolo Arts Council.

“The piece is a wonderful representation of our region’s cultural landscapes,” said Wolk in a press release. “I look forward to seeing Ms. Bellacera’s unique painting displayed alongside the work of artists from throughout California.”

This show of clay works was curated by prominent ceramic sculptor Tony Natsoulas for the Blue Line Gallery in Roseville, CA. The exhibition was in April 2011.

Victoria Dalkey, Art Correspondent for the Sacramento Bee, wrote "Among the surprises of the show are an elaborate expressionistic plate of exotic creatures called 'Pandora's Dilemma' by Joseph Bellacerra, who is better known for his emotive landscapes. The vigorously handled plate signals an interesting new direction for him."

Resident Manuscript

In late November Joe installed "Resident Manuscript" a 3' x 44' polychrome perforated steel screen at the exterior rear of the Davis Library. The intention of this project was to create a screen behind the rear windows of the Davis Library capable of reducing attention to vehicle or pedestrian traffic. To achieve this a perforated metal screen was used. The small holes in the screen allow light to pass through while simultaneously providing enough surface to paint reflective imagery capable of distracting attention from the outside area.

The screen material was shaped to resemble an ancient scroll. The images on this two-sided scroll refer to local nature, history, and scientific findings at UC Davis. The title refers to the fact that these subjects are regional or residents of the Davis area. Included are Pomo baskets, migrating White-faced Ibis and the Selasphorus Hummer, indigenous Sacramento Splitttail, native Valley Oak, rice crops, and the Purple Copper butterfly, a subject of global warming studies.

The Davis library featured performing artists at a recent event. A group of dancers utilized Joe's "Resident Manuscript" in their celebration of books.

Along the Deschutes River

This week Joe installed his multi-panel relief public art piece, "Along the Deschutes River" with help from the good folks at the Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon. This artwork is on display in COCC's new Campus Center Building. The piece is inspired by aerial views surrounding Bend and the Deschutes River. Patterns of Flight Over Winters

Last week with help from Yolo County Joe installed his multi-panel relief public art piece, "Patterns of Flight Over Winters". This artwork depicts the aerial landscape surrounding Winters, CA. Patterns include marshes, orchards, contour and straight set fields as well as irrigation canals and roadways. Aluminum, wood, Plexiglas, oil, enamel, and varnish, 6' x 22' x 8". Catch A Book at West Sac Library

Hurrah! Joe's steel book sculpture, Catch a Book, was installed this week. It was great fun to watch people's reactions when they saw the 9-foot high book with the tumbling stack. You too can see the books at the Arthur F. Turner Library, 1212 Merkely Drive in West Sacramento. There will be a reception in May, and we will keep you posted. Literary quotes from a variety of authors representing the diversity of the region have been added. The book jackets present aerial perspectives of the rich agricultural fields surrounding the city. Waterborne paints were used with a UV, anti-graffiti clear coat.
